Ian Williams

Has trained over 1,000 winners

Ian Williams is one of the country’s leading dual-purpose (Jump and Flat) trainers. He has trained horses for many years from the famous Dominion Racing Stables at Alvechurch in the Midlands. The stables are set in beautiful countryside surrounded by many local racecourses such as Stratford, Warwick, Worcester, Cheltenham, Uttoxeter and Wolverhampton.

Ian currently has over 90 horses in training and has the unique achievement of saddling a winner at every racecourse in the UK. His recently expanded yard includes an international sized indoor arena, with an all-weather surface; two horse walkers, an equine swimming pool and a weigh station.  Ian is also a Member of the Club’s steering committee

Sylvester Kirk

Over 17 years of success

Sylvester trains from Cedar Lodge stables, in the heart of Upper Lambourn. Brought up in his father’s racing stables in Ireland, Sylvester spent many years with Coolmore in Ireland and Australia before spending seven years as assistant trainer to Richard Hannon, former champion trainer.

Sylvester is married to Fanny, Richard’s daughter, and an expert horse woman herself. Together they run a welcoming and hospitable establishment which has enjoyed continuing success over the last 17 years and grows annually.

David Lanigan

Extensive experience here and overseas

After growing up on his parents’ Tullamaine Castle Stud, David Lanigan spent five years in Kentucky with JTL Lanes Walmac Farm working with the likes of Nureyev, Miswaki and Alleged.

He oversaw the running of Walmac’s pre-training in Aiken, South Carolina and Lexington. He then did five years as Sir Henry Cecil’s assistant trainer with the likes of Camacho, Twice Over, Phoenix Tower, Multidimensional, Passage of Time and Light Shift.

Since taking out his own license David has trained around 200 winners including: Meeznah to win the Lillie Langtry G3 and Park Hill G2 and Interception to win at Royal Ascot in the Wokingham Stakes. After five years in Lambourn David has returned to the recently re-furnished Rathmoy Stables in Newmarket.

Ms Ilka Gansera-Leveque

The only trainer-vet in Newmarket

Ilka is truly a trainer with a difference. She is the only female trainer in Newmarket who is also a practising vet. She has a real racing pedigree – has ridden winners as an apprentice and worked as an assistant trainer in the United States. Before qualifying as a vet, she spent a year with legendary horse-whisperer Monty Roberts. Combining horsemanship with science, Ilka trains from her lovely yard at Saint Wendred’s on Hamilton Road on the racecourse side of Newmarket.
